The temperatures have dropped, and with the colder weather come the first sniffles and runny noses.

Supporting your immune system starts with everyday habits — a varied diet, staying well hydrated, and getting enough quality sleep.

As a nutritionist, I've chosen two simple, warming recipes that can complement these habits and fit naturally into a balanced diet.

Warm Ginger, Cinnamon and Lemon Drink

Fragrant and comforting, this drink is a simple ritual to warm up a chilly morning or evening.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup (approximately 240 ml) water
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon freshly grated ginger or ¼ teaspoon ground ginger
  • Juice of ½ lemon
  • 1 tablespoon honey

Preparation: Add the cinnamon and ginger to hot water and let steep for five minutes. Once the drink has cooled slightly, stir in the lemon juice and honey. Sip slowly and enjoy the warmth and aroma.

Warming Thyme and Garlic Soup

Light and aromatic, this soup is a lovely choice when you're craving something warm and simple.

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups (approximately 480 ml) vegetable or chicken broth
  • 3 garlic cloves, finely chopped
  • ½ teaspoon dried thyme or 1 teaspoon fresh, chopped thyme
  • ¼ teaspoon ground turmeric
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Preparation: Bring the broth to a gentle simmer, then add the garlic, thyme and turmeric. Cook over low heat for five to ten minutes, season to taste and serve warm.
